FAQ

0. Where can I find more information about WhereCamp5280?

Go to the WhereCamp5280 Google Group and sign up for the mailing list! Content in the Group is updated all the time!

1. What is an unconference?

An unconference begins with an empty schedule. Several different rooms are provided for presentations, conversations, problem solving, etc. At the beginning of each day, everyone attending has an opportunity to pitch their ideas to the crowd (you don't have to do this). Ideas that receive a good response from the crowd get to select a time and place on the schedule. The schedule is continually refined to help make sure people really interested in two simultaneous sessions. Similar sessions get combined.

Generally everyone with an interesting idea gets a chance to work on the idea with the group of people most interested in that idea. There are no qualifications or requirements for people presenting ideas.

2. What does WhereCamp5280 cost?

Nothing. But if you want to help with sponsorship, let Eric or Peter know. We welcome sponsorships from small, in-kind donations (buy us a cup of coffee!) to larger donations. We have a "wish list" of things that would be nice to have funded. Unfortunately, right now WhereCamp doesn't have an official status as a 403c or similar. So we can't provide any tax benefits. What we will most likely do is connect you with the organization that will fulfill our needs. For instance, we would really like to have a catered lunch on Friday (one of the more expensive items on the wish list). We would connect you with the catering people at the University of Denver.

3. Can I camp?

Historically, WhereCamp has been held at private venues that would provide lawn-space for setting up tents. Unfortunately, the University of Denver can't do this for us. Instead, we are hoping to coordinate with a local hotel to carry the energy through the night.

4. How can I help out?

WhereCamp5280 is a volunteer effort. And that doesn't mean it's sponsored by the University of Tennessee. Go to the Help Out page and find something you might want to do. If your time is too valuable, maybe check the Sponsorship Opportunities page for ways that your dollars can do the helping for you.
